Discrimination Sample Essay

Throughout all of history there have been times when one group of people have been treated unfairly because of their language, color, or religion. One example of this is they way the Nazis tried to kill all the Jewish people. However, in our lives, this discrimination is still exists. People around the world are threatened in some countries because of their religion. Some nations have tried to kill entire groups of people because they belonged to the “wrong” group. Prejudice even exists in our country, state and school.

Last October I saw a person being discriminated against was when I was in Cold Water Creek. This is a fancy clothing store. I saw a woman who was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. She was asking the sales woman for help in finding her size, but the sales woman ignored her. This was because she was not neatly dressed. I went over to this woman and helped her myself. We found the shirt she was looking for and I felt really good having helped her. Then I told the manager how poorly this woman was treated.

Another time I was the subject of discrimination. I was taking my dog, Shelby, out for a walk. She is a certified therapy dog and very gentle. We came to a store and I wanted to walk in. The owner told me I wasn’t allowed in because of Shelby. He said the dog is a threat to the other customers. Then he told me I could tie Shelby up outside and come into the store. I refused to do that. I said he was discriminating against me. I went to another store that let Shelby and me in without a problem. I told all my friends the first store and we all refuse to go there.

In conclusion, discrimination has been around from the beginning of history. It still exists today. I have seen people discriminated against because of the way they are dressed. I have been treated unfairly myself. The only way to overcome is to stand up to it and fight it. We must all work together to end it now.
